prometheus

Prometheus is the friend of humanity and progress.
He steals fire from the gods to give it to men, provoking the wrath of Zeus.
The latter in fact decides to punish him, chaining him to a cliff at the end of the world, and then make him sink into Tartarus.
Prometheus had shown himself to be a friend of men even before he gave them fire, when from a chest of the goddess Athena he had extracted intelligence and memory, giving it to mankind.
According to Plato, it was Prometheus himself who forged man from clay and is the inventor of writing, medicine and architecture, as well as the inspirer of metallurgical art and animal domestication.
All this knowledge is given by him to men, allowing them to pass from the wild state to civilization.
In the history of western culture, Prometheus can therefore be considered a symbol of rebellion and defiance of authorities or impositions.
It is also a metaphor for thought and knowledge, free from myth and ideology.
